After many concerts around the globe, this accordion virtuoso comes to perform with the Connecticut Virtuosi in our debut concert at the Thorp Theater. An accomplished composer as well as performer, Prof. Olczak will perform as the soloist in his newly revised concerto.

Artist:

Prof. KRZYSZTOF OLCZAK was born in Lódz (Poland) in 1956. He graduated as an accordionist from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw and then entered a composition faculty at the Stanislaw Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdansk (a diploma with distinction), where he now is a professor of Accordion and composition.

He is a prizewinner of both accordion and composers competitions. His awards include: a bronze medal at the International Accordion Competition in Auckland (New Zealand)1980, 1st and 2nd prize (1984) and 2nd prize (1988) at “Premio Citta di Castelfidardo”, (Italy), 1st prize and a mention at the All Polish Competition for Young Players in Rzeszów (1985), Stanislaw Wyspianski State Award for composing achievements (1989), Minister of Culture and Art State Award (1993) and others. His works have been performed at various music festivals and recorded on numerous labels.
