Jurate Svedaite

Born into an artistic family, Jurate's love of song began at an early age - by four she was singing along to her favorite operas, and by age twelve was performing throughout the Soviet Union as a soloist with the well-known Liepaitis girl's choir. After graduating from the English-language Salomeja Neris School, Jurate was accepted into the Lithuanian Music Academy, where she went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Operatic Performance and Concert Singing and her Master's Degree in Chamber Singing and Higher Vocal Instruction. She has performed as a soloist with the renown Lithuanian State Chamber Orchestra (S. Sondeckas cond.), the European Baroque Festival Opera and the Kaunas Chamber Orchestra, among others, and has performed the roles of Marguerite, Adina, Tatyana, Speranza and Amahl's Mother.

Her voice has been recognized by professionals and listeners alike as full of color, passion and potential. Jurate is currently studying in New York with former Metropolitan Opera soloist, Loretta DiFranco, and teaches voice at the Thames Valley Music School in New London, Connecticut.
