Artist:
Michael Jude Schiano studied accordion in Brooklyn, New York, with Angelo
Muto. He has performed with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Waterbury
Symphony, the Connecticut Valley Chamber Orchestra, and other groups in the
state. He has accompanied Jonathan Bayless, Ute Lemper, and Luciano Pavarotti,
performed at the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Summer Music at Harkness, and
is a member of the Long Island based Beatles Magical Orchestra. He plays a piano
accordion with a Stradella bass: this is a popular design for accordions in the
United States, as it is flexible enough to play jazz, ethnic music, and
classical repertory.
He holds degrees at Princeton, University of London, and Brandeis University ,
and is Associate Professor of Music Theory at The Hartt School, University of
Hartford, where he teaches courses in music theory and music history. He has
presented papers on Mozart, Schoenberg, and The Beatles, and his articles have
appeared in Notes, College Music Symposium, and The New Grove Dictionary of
Music and Musicians.
