Dear Friends:

I invite you again to concert which is in some way a continuation of the Polish musical theme. In our performance in February we've played a concerto by Chopin, in March we will focus a little more on the XX century works, also will present to you another great Polish Romantic; Henry Wieniawski.
The upcoming performance by the Virtuosi will be an eclectic program covering the span of three hundred years of classical music heritage. The performance will be lead by guest conductor of the youngest generation Marzena Diakun.

The evening’s repertoire includes two pieces by the XX century’s Polish Masters: Grazyna Bacewicz and Andrzej Panufnik. The concert will also feature a XIX century romantic concerto for violin and orchestra by Henry Wieniawski, and a classical symphony by Joseph Haydn.
The choice of the repertoire is not accidental. It shows a process of inspiration and development of culture, which many of us call our own. Polish musical tradition developed and matured over many centuries. From the golden period of Polish Renaissance, through historic victories and national tragedies, Polish society took time to find its own identity, and it found the artistic maturity during a political crisis; some of the greatest Polish composers of the XX century created their work during the socialist regime of 1950-1980.

Sir Andrzej Panufnik was a great composer of Polish Diaspora in London. Panufnik was admired by his contemporaries not only for his work, but also for his personality, which radiated with warmth and kindness against an ocean of the socialist ideology.
Grazyna Bacewicz was the first woman composer to raise to the top of the Polish musical circles. A great violinist as well as a composer, she has left a mark on many generations of Polish musicians.
Henry Wieniawski is, next to Chopin, one of the greatest musical figures of the XIX century Polish romanticism. Typically for the time, he primarily wrote for himself, and thus, his music is written primarily for violin. Like Chopin, Wieniawski drew the inspiration from Polish folk music, quoting and borrowing musical elements from Mazurkas, Polonaises, and other national folk dances.

The program will close with a symphony by Haydn. Haydn represents here a universal value; his music can serve as a foundation of much of the music created later, or as a universal coronation of all other works heard in the program. It serves as a reminder that music knows no borders, it transcends and connects cultures, and inspires generations to learn and create anew.

See you at the Concert.
